In 2011 Julia met writer George Saunders at the Sundance Film Festival, and although writing had always featured strongly in her life, it was this conversation that led her to pursue it professionally. Before long she was writing for small online publications and to her surprise, her content was more than well received. From there she was asked to become a contributor at HG, the female-centered comedy and lifestyle site started by Zooey Deschanel, Sophia Rivka Rossi, and Molly McAleer. Julia began writing editorials on issues of women's rights and had the privilege of co-editing a series with the White House Office of Public Engagement highlighting community work by remarkable women for over two years. She also contributed to several other sites, including The Representation Project and The Conversation.
Her editorial work consists of pieces she pitched, while her assignments consist of pieces she was requested to write.
